PCCA Supplies Hand Sanitizer to Houston Fire Department for 100 Stations

Donation is part of PCCA’s nationwide #CompoundingHandoff campaign

HOUSTON - March 27, 2020 – PCCA donated pharmaceutical-grade hand sanitizers on Friday to the Houston Fire Department, supplying bottles for 100 fire stations as part of the continued #CompoundingHandoff outreach in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fire Chief Samuel Peña and Assistant Fire Chief Ruy Lozano picked up the sanitizers at PCCA’s offices, next to Station 73 on Wilcrest Drive in southwest Houston. Manufactured by PCCA based on FDA-guidance, these hand sanitizers are a valuable tool for those on the front lines of the heath care crisis.

“The Houston Fire Department will continue serving the people of Houston, and we are grateful for the support of our community,” Peña said. “Resources like this are crucial for protecting our firefighters and others, and we welcome any aid that the people of Houston can offer at this time. The fact that PCCA changed their business model to be able to meet the need of this community and help protect our first responders is an incredibly great gesture.”

The department, facing a sanitizer shortage amid the coronavirus outbreak, sought help from PCCA, which is an FDA-registered and inspected chemical repackager. Its members, compounding pharmacies, provide customized medication formulations for patients based on doctors’ prescriptions.

These donations are part of PCCA’s #CompoundingHandoff campaign encouraging compounding pharmacies nationwide to supply hand sanitizer to emergency crews. PCCA is optimistic the coordinated campaign will inspire its members to donate this crucial resource.

“First responders play a vital role in protecting our communities, especially at this critical time, and we want to do all we can to make sure they are equipped to handle this crisis,” said PCCA President Jim Smith. “For 39 years, first responders have been there for us in Houston, and this is one small way to give back in a time of need.  We retooled our processes and manufactured the hand sanitizer using a formula from the WHO to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus and protect those who are doing essential work on the front lines. We are honored that PCCA - and compounding pharmacies across the country - can be a part of the solution.”
